I was recently invited by the ABA to address a group of General Counsel on “Lawyers as Guardians of Business Integrity and Conscience of the Company.” The topic was chosen because of a spate of high-profile scandals and regulatory imbroglios that resulted in no small part from the failure of GC’s to discharge the guardian/conscience role.

As recently as the 1990’s the General counsel was the lawyer equivalent of roadie to the law firm partner rock star.

After several days of facing mounting criticism for not specifically denouncing the white supremacist groups at the center of violence in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend, President Donald Trump called racism “evil” during a speech at the White House on Monday afternoon.

Trump’s remarks came two days after violence in Charlottesville reached a boiling point, culminating in the death of Heather Heyer, a 32-year-old counterprotester, when a driver with suspected ties to neo-Nazi groups plowed his car into a crowd and sped away.

Here's something I didn't expect to see, now more than a year into the release of No Man's Sky.

This is all naturally thanks to the game's recent "Atlas Rises" update, a colossal beast that overhauls nearly every aspect of the game, adding in new story, functionality and environmental variety to a game that had already seen some sizeable free updates since launch.

How Commissioner Carr can modernize the FCC [0.21]

Posted on Aug. 14, 2017, 5:21 p.m. by Forbes Real Time @ [source]

It’s a new day at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This common-sense plan is a natural part of the evolution of a telecom regulator, which by design should support the transition the market from monopoly to competition, not invent new things to regulate in an attempt to be relevant.

The move followed the Daily Stormer's publication of an article attacking Heather Heyer, a 32-year-old paralegal who died Saturday after being struck by a car while protesting a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Your Anon News, a major Twitter account for the dispersal of Anonymous-related news, reported having no confirmation of members' involvement, and said the hacking claim seems "more like a [Daily Stormer] stunt," perhaps related to its quest for a new domain host.

Annabelle: Creation opened with $35 million this weekend, which makes it the first breakout horror movie of the summer and (barring a Logan Lucky/Hitman’s Bodyguard miracle) the last biggie of the summer. They also moved Kingsman: The Golden Circle into September, but the date change also sent Paramount/Viacom Inc.’s Baywatch to Memorial Day weekend, Sony’s Life to March 24th and Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc.’s Annabelle: Creation to this past weekend, as opposed to its intended May 19th date.

The South Korean government’s recent move to nip in the bud any incipient asset bubbles by increasing the corporate tax rate on its largest companies (among other things) is an example of a government making proper diagnosis but prescribing the wrong medicine--and for the wrong reasons.

It is perfectly understandable that the South Korean government wants to be vigilant about the rapid run-up in real estate prices of late, given its country’s history with financial crises--South Korea’s economy suffered greatly in the East Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 as well as during the global collapse of financial markets in 2007.
