Recently, I worked on a sales page design and layout that I absolutely loved. Jennifer Louden, an incredible writing coach and best-selling author, and I have been working together closely for some time now so naturally, it made sense for me to design the sales page for her Writer’s Oasis.

Storytelling + Community Building [0.07]

In this presentation, which I gave at WordCamp Ottawa on July 22, 2017, I chatted about storytelling, social media and digital marketing to help attendees understand how all three can help them build and grow a community around their work.

While the slides are more visual in nature, and feature less content than your typical PowerPoint, it should give you enough inspiration to get started.

She asked me where I came up with those ideas as she figured some people would struggle with creating a list like that — specifically in an area that they weren’t familiar with.

I like to leverage the “Read Later” or “Save to Board” options (as seen in the screenshot below) as it lets me clip things that I know will be good for my own writing or for my client’s writing.

The conversation in my Digital Marketing Strategy Facebook Group recently turned to marketing funnels recently so I wrote up a little framework on creating the introductory funnel that people land on when they first join my list. If you’re looking to create your first funnel for list building, I hope this framework helps.

Building an e-mail marketing list should be one of the first things you do when building your online or digital presence.

For my list building, I use LeadPages [side note: that is an affiliate link and yes, I do get a small commission if you click through and sign up BUT please know I only recommend what I love AND I use it myself and have a paid account] for almost everything.

As a digital strategist who has been in the online marketing space since 2004, and who has worked in the backend of over 300 online businesses, I’ve been intimately involved in a lot of launches.

Some launches go really, really well and others fall flat and more often than not, I can tell exactly how it will go before we even begin.

Digital overwhelm is something that a lot of us deal with on a daily basis. The number of ways that we can be reached — e-mail, Skype, Slack, Facebook Messenger, LinkedIn messages, Basecamp, text message — feels limitless and keeping a handle on all of them can be difficult.

Posted on Jan. 6, 2017, 5:35 p.m. by Erin Blaskie @ [source]

Social media is something a lot of people struggle with — they often aren’t sure how to use it or which tools are the most useful. I spend a lot of time on Twitter, and still enjoy it immensely, but I see these three mistakes being made all too often so I thought a little social media PSA was in order.

Although cloud storage is so easy to come by these days, there are still people out there who don’t store their files online and properly back them up.

Managing your e-mail inbox can be a bit overwhelming at times — especially if you’ve found yourself subscribed to hundreds of e-mail subscriptions, newsletters and other lists. It can be time consuming and tedious to unsubscribe from each newsletter individually but the benefits of having fewer e-mails in your inbox are enormous.

I sat on my couch, wrapped in a comfy blanket, holding my smartphone in one hand while my other hand rolled strands of hair nervously.

Strewn throughout the photographs were ads — brightly coloured ads, white background ads with black text and ads that only showed up as blank space until enough time had elapsed.

If you’re anything like me, the thought of planning out an entire year may seem a bit overwhelming and this sense of dread may cause you to shy away from getting your thoughts down on paper and increasing your overall clarity for the 365 days ahead. However, not planning out what your year looks like will cause you to flounder around like a fish on a dock who has no idea how to jump back into the water.
