Infiniti possesses no century of excellence to match the best European brands, no gravitas borne of a storied racing heritage or legacy of engineering greatness. For Infiniti, there is no remembrance of things past to inform and inspire design language of 21st Century luxury performance cars.

Nissan is launching ProPilot Assist in America late this year on the second-generation Leaf and they want everyone to take particular note of the second word in that brand. In January 2017, Nissan’s then-CEO Carlos Ghosn delivered two keynotes just days apart at CES and the North American International Auto Show that focused on the company’s electrification and automated driving efforts.

We’re still about about six weeks away from our first look at the second-generation Nissan Leaf sans camouflage, but in an effort to dominate the news cycle through the summer doldrums, the automaker keeps trickling out bits of information. The latest is the e-Pedal, a one-pedal driving feature that Nissan claims is a world’s first.

Accompanied by the usual media crescendo, albeit without putting his words into action, Tesla’s Elon Musk has been talking a lot about launching electric trucks, and starting production of EVs in China. World’s leading EV maker, the Renault-Nissan Alliance, again is way ahead of Tesla, on both counts.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance continues its push for greater market share in the not so glamorous, but highly profitable field of light commercial vehicles (LCV). Following this, Groupe Renault will purchase from CBA a 49% equity interest in SBJ, resulting in a restructured joint venture company held by CBA (51%) and Groupe Renault (49%).

Five months into the year, Toyota and the Renault-Nissan Alliance are in a dead heat in the race for the World’s Largest Automaker title.

For the more meaningful first five months of the year, Toyota leads, with the Renault-Nissan Alliance dangerously close behind by less than 6,000 units.

As the "July" final-production Model 3 date draws nears, rivals are starting to get chatty -- and more visible. But with rivals GM and Tesla now in the 215-240 mile range, this will be the most closely watched spec.

This must be the coincidence of the week. Yesterday, The Drive lambasted Nissan for allegedly having “turned its back on NISMO, and that’s a damned shame.” Today, Nissan asked journalists to come to NISMO’s Omori factory between Tokyo and Yokohama for a “briefing on our plans to enhance and expand the NISMO road car lineup.” Nissan will push its NISMO performance line heavily, and globally, we heard today.
